Sonnet for the Graduating Class

See! Adorned in hues of recognition,

Orbs glistening and flashing dental whites —

A younger self: another tradition —

Now steps fulfilled, proven strong wills and mights.

Success celebrated in academe,

The moment flourishes for journey’s end.

With humble histories your memories teem;

All their labours and lessons transcend.

Melodies of a hundred hearts you hear

Echoing from a sheltered place within;

Feeling familiar beats urging you near

Towards a calling you yearn to begin.

An oath in the past you wrote for today:

A vision of yourself you see this May.
